Slate LMS ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. We are a Data Fiduciary as defined under India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data on https://slatelms.in.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the data necessary to deliver educational services:
- Personal Information: Name, school email address, class/section, and role (Student, Teacher, Admin). This is collected via Google Sign-In (Authentication).
- Educational Data: Homework submissions, quiz scores, attendance, and AI-generated learning summaries.
- Technical Data: IP address, device type, and login timestamps for security and audit logs.
2. How We Use Your Information
We process personal data strictly for educational purposes consistent with the services agreed upon with your School:
- To manage school curriculum, assignments, and grading.
- To generate academic performance reports for Teachers and Principals.
- To provide AI-driven tutoring assistance (e.g., summarizing notes).
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use student data for targeted advertising or behavioral profiling unrelated to education.
3. Children's Privacy
We provide services to users under the age of 18 ("Children"). In compliance with the DPDP Act, 2023:
- Verifiable Parental Consent: We rely on the School Administration to obtain and verify parental consent for all student accounts created on Slate. By using the platform, the School warrants that it has obtained necessary permissions from parents/lawful guardians.
- No Harmful Processing: We do not process any data that is likely to cause any detriment to a child's well-being.
- No Tracking: We do not track children for commercial purposes or ads.
4. Your Rights (Data Principals)
Under the DPDP Act, users (or their parents/guardians) have the right to:
- Access: Request a summary of personal data being processed.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or misleading data.
- Erasure: Request deletion of data when it is no longer necessary for the purpose.
- Grievance Redressal: File a complaint regarding data processing.
- Nomination: Nominate an individual to exercise rights in the event of death or incapacity.

5. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as the School holds an active subscription with us or as required by law. Upon termination of the School's contract, or upon specific request for deletion, all student data is erased from our servers within 60 days.
6. Third-Party Services
- Google: We use Google for authentication and cloud hosting.
- AI Models: Text data (e.g., PDF notes) processed by our AI models (e.g., Gemini/OpenAI) is not used to train their public models.
